A divorced mother of four, two wealthy doctors and a twisted love triangle that ends in murder — was the killing of a prominent doctor a random act of violence or the result of a deadly obsession by an ex-boyfriend? On a quiet summer morning, Dr. Joseph Sonnier is found brutally murdered in his stately north west Texas home. Who could have wanted to kill a so-called renaissance man beloved by his small community? Police are stumped until they receive a tip out of the blue, leading them to the man who pulled the trigger. After two trials, will justice be served?
In an exclusive interview, Richelle Shetina, the woman at the center of the love triangle, speaks out about the murder of her boyfriend, pathologist Dr. Joseph Sonnier, and her ex-boyfriend Dr. Mike Dixon, who is accused of hiring a hitman.“Evil followed me straight to Joseph’s door,” Shetina told ABC News’ Ryan Smith. “This good and kind and decent and loving man. Like it or not, evil followed me right there.”
For the first time, the daughters of the hitman speak about their father and what he’s done. Smith’s extensive report also includes interviews with Dr. Sonnier’s three sons, Dr. Dixon’s son, investigators, prosecution and defense team, as well as interrogation tapes and key crime scene photos.
