BREAKING: New York lockdown as 35 injured in gas incident amid reports of explosion
At least 35 people are being treated at local hospitals for carbon monoxide poisoning – with at least one person believed to be critical.
It is not known what caused the gas leak, although FBNY have suggested it may have been started by a faulty oil burner.
Chief James Leonard said: “We found a defective boiler in the basement with some sort of broken pipe that was producing the CO.”
The city fire department says they are conducting CO readings in neighboring buildings and enquiries continue.
NY1 has a crew at the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
