Mr Hogan also said the Tories striking a pact with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) would imply “a much more positive tone towards a soft Brexit”.

The DUP, which is expected to prop up Theresa May‘s minority government, is opposed to any move to quit the customs union and single market.

Leader Arlene Foster recently said: “No-one wants to see a hard Brexit, what we want to see is a workable plan to leave the European Union.”
