Feuding EU’s Brexit chief Verhofstadt forced to share power as bloc ‘clips his wings’

Speaking at the first meeting of the Parliament since Britain triggered Article 50 to leave the EU last Wednesday, he said the relationship “was never a love affair”.

He told the Parliament: “It was a very sad moment, Wednesday last week when the British ambassador gave the letter to President Tusk.

“The relationship between Britain and the EU was never easy, let’s recognise that, it was never a love affair, certainly never a wild passion, it was a marriage of convenience.”
