The material was seen as being highly flammable – but there was a safer, more expensive option, that was less prone to be ravaged by a fire -that was not used.

Contractors, Harley Facades, who carried out the work will also face scrutiny.

The firms owners Ray and Belinda Bailey have gone into hiding and remained silent since the disaster, this Wednesday on June 14.

The work has been blasted by MPs and safety officers who are angry that the concerns about the cladding being a fire hazard were largely ignored.
